I attended much of the NH Film Festival this past weekend--I'm a big film buff-- and of course one of the most important parts of any film festival are the parties. I got to most of them and they all had food and a bit of a different attitude. I did miss the Muddy River party on Friday night--I had an exhausting day and couldn't muster the energy.
First up--Thursday night's after party at the raw bar at Jumpin' Jays. The good--nice food including shrimp and cocktail sauce with plenty of horseradish and little crab cakes. Also good--big open space with the run of the restaurant.
Shrimp: All parties must have lots of shrimp
Friday reception at The Music Hall. The Good--excellent food. Beef, shrimp, dumplings, raw veggies, chicken skewers. And of course the really cool bar they have in the lobby now. Also real absinthe for a special cocktail and Smutty on tap. Nice. The not so good--can't think of anything.
Saturday afternoon at the 100 Club. VIPs and other artists and such got into this one sponsored by Left Bank Films. The Good--great food here too--fresh turkey, spiral ham, pasta salad, um, shrimp. And OPEN BAR. The not so good--how much can you drink in the afternoon? Not much.
Saturday night after party at Pesce Blue- This is the big see and be seen party every year now and man was it crowded. Plus there were many people I didn't see at ANY of the movies so it seemed like they came for the party. Lots of glam. The Good--food was inventive. buffalo quail, chipotle popcorn, duck confit empanadas and little house made gourmet "cheez-its". But too crowded! We had to get out of there fast.
